June 20th, 2019

AEW sells out All Out in Chicago in record time, but was this really the biggest ticket demand for any show in wrestling history? We debate.

Ep. 102: Diagnosing (And Fixing) WWE’s Problems

June 13th, 2019

As the Summer gets underway, WWE is full of problems. The television is far from "must-see," and the company seems to lack any real direction for the foreseeable future. We diagnose WWE's primary problems (some recent developments, others long term ailments) and attempt to brainstorm some ideas that could begin to turn the company around.

While WWE struggles, New Japan is still experiencing some new excitement as we get ready for the G1 and Will Ospreay continues his case for Wrestler of the Year. Plus, AEW puts tickets on sale for All Out.

Ep. 101: New Japan Is Back

June 6th, 2019

New Japan Pro Wrestling is garnering headlines this week as the final night of the Best of the Super Juniors produced two fantastic matches: Jon Moxley vs. Juice Robinson and Will Ospreay vs. Shingo Takagi. We're talking about NJPW taking back the headlines once more following a big few weeks from AEW.

Then we transition into some final thoughts on NXT TakeOver 25, who should move up to the main roster next from NXT, the booking of the Money In The Bank briefcase, and of course Kyle's match of the week.

Note: Ryan had some microphone problems, so the audio quality is not up to our usual standards. We apologize and will get this fixed before our next show, but we didn't want to trash what was a great discussion!

Ep. 100: AEW Fallout, Jon Moxley Tells All, NXT TakeOver 25

May 30th, 2019

The day has arrived - Top Rope Nation has reached Episode 100!

We have a jam-packed episode this week to mark this huge milestone for our program. To start things off, we get a bit nostalgic and talk about the history of the podcast. How did this show start? How did the hosts get selected? What are some of our favorite moments over the previous 99 episodes? Plus, we air listener voicemails throughout the broadcast congratulating us on reaching #100.

After that, we talk Jon Moxley's headline-inducing interview this week on Chris Jericho's podcast. We parlay that into a discussion on AEW and where they stand coming out of Double or Nothing, plus some thoughts on what we saw out of that industry changing PPV last Saturday night.

Finally, we talk NXT TakeOver 25 this weekend. With that show being a bit of a landmark, we talk the history of NXT TakeOver and look at our favorite NXT matches and events of all time. Then, we pick the winners for this Saturday's big event.

Ep. 98: Money In The Bank Preview, Hart/Magee Thoughts

May 16th, 2019

WWE Money In The Bank 2019 is this Sunday and we're here to preview the show for you, getting you up to speed on everything you need to know heading into the event, as well as predictions from us on what will happen in each and every single match.

But before we get to that, it's been another newsworthy week. We talk about AEW's now finalized deal with TNT and whether or not the Double Or Nothing PPV price is too high.

Just before going on the air, we received word of the untimely death of former WWE Diva Ashley Massaro, so we talk about her contributions to the wrestling world and tragic death. Earlier in the day, Ric Flair was hospitalized for a scheduled procedure, which is another topic of discussion.

Lastly, we break down the airing of the holy grail of (previously) unseen wrestling matches: the 1986 Bret Hart vs. Tom Magee match. We have thoughts on how WWE presented the match, the documentary that aired, and the match itself. Plus, some deep thoughts on why this once again proves Bret is one of the greatest wrestlers of all time (and some things in particular that he did much better than Shawn Michaels).

Ep. 97: AEW TV Confirmed, Time To End The WWE Brand Split?

May 9th, 2019

A ton to talk about this week, most notably the fact that All Elite Wrestling's television home looks to be all but finalized. We break down what the network means for AEW and how nostalgia could be worked into their promotional packaging to bring back wrestling's lapsed fans.

Lars Sullivan has been making headlines this week and not for a good reason. We've got some heated thoughts on his horrible past comments and it should mean for his WWE career.

WWE tried to spice things up this week with the new wild card rule. However, despite a small bump to ratings, it's pretty evident that there are deeper issues that need fixing. We debate if it's time to put the latest brand split behind us.

Lastly, we break down this week's edition of Dark Side of the Ring - a tremendous documentary on the life and death of Gino Hernandez.
